The ocean is under attack and we are to blame

By Tom · On March 21, 2016

The ocean is a wonderful thing. Whether you want to spend all your time in it or by it, the ocean provides an amazing source of therapy. However, every day the ocean is under attack from natural and manmade pollution.

Ocean pollution is the biggest killer of marine life and habitats. Pollution comes in many forms, which include plastic and toxic chemicals. Both are entering our oceans at an alarming rate, creating dangerous consequences for marine life as well as mankind. Did you know that the ocean produces over 70% of the oxygen that we breathe and over 97% of our planet’s water supply? Without the ocean mankind would not exist today.

Pollution does not only affect marine life. Plastics that are free floating within our ocean have the ability to absorb these toxic chemicals. When this pollution finds its way back to our beaches and coastlines, this can be extremely dangerous to the people swimming in these polluted waters. Individuals can experience side effects such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea and even skin rashes.

If you would like to learn more about ocean pollution and how it affects marine life and mankind, then take a look at the incredible infographic below, created by the team at www.divein.com
