Back Spirare sustainable surf craft on KickStarter

Kevin Cunningham of Spirare Surfboards finds a solution to dealing with beach refuse - use it to make new boards. He just needs your help to make it a reality…

Kevin is working on using found debris and trash that washes up on beaches in his hand-shaped surfboards. The boards he shapes are sustainable; using a recycled EPS foam frame and a wood skin to make them performance oriented. He has always viewed surfboards as functional fine art and put a high emphasis on the construction and the aesthetic value of a board.

He is using drift wood, fishing nets, and plastic debris in the construction of these boards. Drift wood for inlays and fins as well as found plastic bits, plastic bags woven into strengthening cloth, etc. He is still in the experimental and funding phase though. He has partnered with KickStarter.com to raise the funds to make this happen. KickStarter acts as a platform for him to raise money from individuals. People who pledge money to his project receive rewards like t-shirts, tote bags, hand planes, stickers, and more.
