South American shapers - Part two

By Santiago Videla · On May 15, 2015

Part two of the series looking into South American shapers. Over the last 25 years there has been exponential growth of surfing in Argentina. From very few in the early 60s & 70s to today’s overcrowded lineups, there is always a shaper doing his best to give us a decent board.

Handshaping, automation, the country’s financial situation and the inner feelings of surf. All of these topics were discussed and shared with six of the most well known Argentinian shapers. In the second edition, Nicolas Grilli from Akua Surfboards, Ezequiel Macchi from Macchi Surfboards and Mariano Gryner from Gryner Surfboards give us the low down.

Nicolas is a very innovative shaper and he makes the difference when you are looking for a really well-shaped and designed surfboard. His trips around the most important surf spots in America gave him a lot of experience, so he understands what a surfer needs.

Thanks for your time, Nico!

Ezequiel is a classic in Mar Del Plata. The experience he gained from years of shaping in La Jolla, with Tim Bessell, has given him an enviable perspective. From Longboards to guns, any shape made by him will be flawless.

Thanks, Eze!
