The outsider in the Roxy Pro final, Lindsay Steinriede (California, USA) claimed the 2011 Roxy Pro longboard event on her 28th birthday, and leaves France leading the ASP Women’s World longboard ratings with confidence towards a possible maiden world title next October.
Stephanie Gilmore (Gold Coast, AUS), 23, won the Roxy Pro in Biarritz today, the charismatic champion clinching her first victory of the season ahead of freshly crowned 2011 ASP Women’s World Champion Carissa Moore (Oahu, HAW), 18, in good quality three-foot (one meter) waves and finding the only clean barrel of the event en route to victory.
The Roxy Pro was treated to world-class action and sunny weather on Day four of the waiting period, some clean two-to-three foot (0.7 to 1 meter) waves breaking along Biarritz’s coast and providing both event venues with quality surf conditions.
The Roxy Pro got underway in two-to-three foot (0.6 to 1 meter) waves in Biarritz today, the famous Cote des Basques beach allowing three heats of Round 1 to wrap-up through the incoming morning tide.
The Roxy Pro, second-to-last stop on this year’s ASP Women’s World title season and first of two ASP Women’s World Longboard Tour events, kicks off today at Cote des Basques beach in Biarritz, France for a seven-day waiting period that promises intense world-class surfing in presence of surfing icon Lisa Andersen.
For nearly a decade, Roxy has been uniting competitive surfing with an art festival featuring exhibits by photographers, sculptors and painters, all of whom share a common theme: surfing and the ocean.
