Me, my shark and I

August 12, 2010 | Words By: Staff Writer

San Onofre SharkSan Onofre surfer Chuck Patterson spotted two Great White sharks circling his board in the murky waters around this North San Diego County break. So he paddled in to fetch his camera, so that he could film them from his board. On the face of it, not a sensible plan.

Grabbing his waterproof camera and paddling back out the next day, Chuck encounters two sharks, one at around nine feet, the other around seven feet long. They cruise close to Chuck, slap his board with their tales a few times, then disappear from where they came. Chuck describes the encounter as unreal and one he will cherish forever.
