Forget the Severn and take on the world’s biggest bore

By Tom · On October 23, 2015

Bore surfing is without doubt a phenomenon of some magnitude in the UK with most surfers fancying a chance to slip into the muddy waters of the Severn to catch that sporadic river wave. Now imagine a bore wave that can be ridden for 40kms+ and that can rattle a barrel over your head some 10ft and you are somewhere near what the locals have nicknamed ‘The Baan’.

Situated in West Bengal, India is the 160 miles long Hooghly River that runs through the heart of Kolkata. It is here a team of surfers have been taking on The Baan, a tributary of the Ganges.

Everaldo ‘Pato’ Teixeira, a Jetsurf rider, was one of the first people to ride the monster

“To have a Jetsurf and to be able to just find those moments… It’s such a joy, we are all kids anyways.” Pato said about the experience.
