We talk weddings, stag dos and Scottish yomps with Sam Glazebrook as his latest short film ‘Fine Company’ is attracting praise in the London Surf Film Festival Shorties.
Sam wasn’t intending on entering the LSSF even after show organisers tried to persuade him his talents would be missed if he didn’t. But then everything came together in quick succession and in little over three days Sam had shot, edited and filed his entry, Fine Company.
Sam had caught up with good friend Mike Lay in the week before the deadline where Mike touted the idea of getting together to shoot some footage. Mike had Australian Mitch Surman (owner of MS Surfboards) coming over for a visit after he was in Portugal, so the fuse was lit.
“Mitch came over to England for a week and everything came good in Cornwall on that Wednesday. He is a top bloke, a classic Aussie but the boys managed to teach him a few Cornish phrases,” Sam said.
“We were lucky to get some brilliant footage in that small window, but I still wasn’t thinking about entering. Then on Thursday I saw that the deadline had been extended until the Saturday and the race was on… It was just slightly more problematic as I had a stag do and a wedding to fit in between! Not ideal,” Sam smiled.
Somewhere between a long yomp in the Scottish highlands, juggling other film edits and a full on wedding Sam managed to complete Fine Company and upload it to the site with literally minutes to spare.
“I finished it and I am well pleased I did, I still feel a bit knackered now though!” He added.
It has been a big year for Glazebrook, his film How to Road Trip received huge critical acclaim from across the surfing spectrum. He is now working for the brand Nineplus and his efforts have also seen him noticed outside the industry with Levis hiring him to work with them.
“It’s been a great year, working on my own films have been brilliant but working with more brands both in and out of surfing has really been the icing on the cake.”
“Plus I’m off to Morocco to shoot a short film over there so I couldn’t be happier.”
