Possibly one of the best drone edits we have seen from one of the world’s most renowned waves. The footage is accompanied by the French tune Le Goudron from Brigitte Fontaine, which is superbly fitting considering the French-Polynesian background of Tahiti.

Teahupo’o has earned a reputation as ‘the heaviest wave on earth’ and roughly translates to ‘pile of heads’ or ‘place of skulls’ which is believed to reference the the island’s bloody tribal past.

The surf spot ranks in the Transworld ‘Top 10 Deadliest Waves’ accounting for at least five deaths since 2000 and with 30ft+ waves breaking just a few metres above razor-sharp coral, it comes as no surprise.
