The Hebrides: A photo essay
James Bowden recently explored the farthest shores of the British Isles, taking nothing more than his van, good friends and good expectations. He recounts his journey through the lens...
This year I decided to stay a little closer to home than normal and explore my own island, something I've never really done before. So I spent a paycheck on a van (Renée the Renault) and hit the road... in the slow lane. In May I grabbed two good buddies, Harry Mosely and Nick Radford and found the left lane north, bound for the Western Isles of Scotland. We didn't plan the trip around a swell, we just loaded up with gear to keep us entertained and went to see what we could stumble across. I'm not sure if we were lucky, but we got fun waves everyday, sunshine and the good times were a rollin'.
Here is how it went down...
You can spend all day driving around checking spots in the Western Isles and the going can be pretty slow, sometimes you hit gold, sometimes you just need to kick back and enjoy the scenery.
