Varkala Cliff beach is best for a beginner as there are lifegurards there. There are no surf schools (in the whole of India) and no board rental shop. But some of the beach boys sometimes have a board or two to rent, but don't count on it! Bring your own if you can. From October I'll be opening the Soul&Surf House. Check www.soulandsurf.com for details.
Cheers, Ed.

Varkala is yet another beach but not super crowded yet. Almost like less crowded Goa or a quieter Kovalam. Nice place.

There's a few boogie boards for rent from the main beach, but they're all just riding shore-dump. There's 2 or 3 battered but ok thrusters for sale, but only for use on the main beach, where the worst surf is! When are you coming?
