Polystyrene can be recycled but it is costly and as a result the vast majority ends up in landfill. Now the company Sustainable Surf has teamed up with a host of other organisations to create Waste to Waves, a recycling programme to convert all of the waste into pure surfing goodness.

According to the pros that have tested the final result they are identical to any standard EPS foam boards, but unfortunately for us Brits the recycling collections are only operating in California at present.
